Dee Williams for City Council

Derothea Williams has been a lifelong advocate for racial and social justice. Dee was recruited to run for office after long-neglected issues around wealth disparity, policing, and the lack of minority business contracts with the City of Asheville had reached a critical juncture. This progresive campaign outlined a series of reforms including the adoption of police body cameras, instituting participatory budgeting for disenfranchised communities, and banning the criminal history box on city job applications. These ideas while seen at the time of that campaign as being far too ambitious, have now been adopted by the City of Asheville.

Synergetic Strategies oversaw this campaign for Asheville City Council. In addition to day-to-day management of candidate’s calendar, assisted with a messaging including position papers, debate prep, and speech writing. Built website, designed campaign materials, and managed social media. We are happy to play a continuing role in consulting Mrs. Williams and advising her on ongoing advocacy campaigns.

How to raise the profile of a grassroots candidate with a tight budget.

Advanced a series of cutting-edge policy proposals through a unique organizational listening tour and via public comment at City committee meetings, which help the campaign receive substantial earned media and buzz on social media.

A loyal following of constituents that eventually earned the Williams campaign 4691 votes.
